Groningen

Groningen is a historical and charming student city with one of the oldest universities in the Netherlands. Besides this, Groningen is also an old hanseatic city with an interesting history.

Shopping and nightlife

In the shopping streets you will find modern shops and also the popular brand stores where you can shop till you drop. Take a walk on the market, have a cup of coffee or tea in one of the nice cafés or a beer on one of the popular terraces when the weather allows it. For a night out, Groningen is the place to be! Groningen is one of the few places in the Netherlands where there are no official closing times. So if you want to party all night long, there will always be a place that is open till dawn.

Museums

Are you a fan of museums? Then we suggest you go to the modern Groninger Museum. Besides the standard collection, the museum often has bigger (international) exhibition. The international exibitions are always well visited both by locals and international guests. But there are also other interesting museums to see here such as e.i. the GRID graphic museum and the Storyworld museum (comics, animation and games museum).

Enjoying the outdoors

Renting a bike allows you to travel like a local. Take a tour to one of the parks that are being used by both the young and the old ones. Go by bike out of town to the lake. Here you can swim, sunbathe, barbeque or simply relax – just like the locals do as soon as the weather allows it. Groningen is a city that you just won’t get enough of!
